Samantha Jacobs took top honors in the "B" Singles bracket to complete a personal 7-1 weekend and lead the Union College women's tennis team at the season-opening Mary Hosking Invitational, hosted by William Smith College on Saturday and Sunday.
It was a very successful opening weekend for the Garnet Chargers, earning six semifinal berths and three finals spots in the four singles and two doubles brackets.
Jacobs finished her run through the "B" Singles draw with two more impressive wins on Sunday to take the title. She knocked off RPI's Gauri Muliyil by an 8-4 score in the semifinal round, and then came back to outlast another Engineer, Victoria Sarabosing, in an 8-6 victory.
Jacobs also made the finals in the "B" Doubles bracket alongside junior
Sydney Alphabet, beating RPI's Anushka Jaiswal and Taylor Chandler by an 8-4 score. The pair could not complete the 4-0 weekend, however, coming up just short to RPI's Neha Saraswatula and Kaaviya Kannan, 8-6.
The "D" Singles Bracket got underway on Sunday and first-year
Calista Finkelstein made an immediate impression, winning her first three sets to reach the finals. She started off with a 6-2 win over RIT's Devon Mills, followed by a 6-1 defeat of Ithaca's Eliana Chelnick. She won her third in a row by knocking off Saraswatula, 7-5, but came up just short of a title, however, falling 6-3 to RPI's Taylor Chandler. Despite losing her first match to Chandler, junior

In other action, junior
