BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Union College men's cross country team participated in a pair of races on Friday at the annual Paul Short Run, hosted by Lehigh University and presented by ASICS at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course.
Running in the Brown 8K against many of the top teams in Division III, Union finished in 43rd place with a team score of 1,194. USTFCCCA #13 New York University placed five runners in the top-20 to earn first place, with #25 Amherst College coming in second. The race featured 11 teams currently ranked in the top-30 of Division III.
Junior
Bretton Garrick paced the Garnet Chargers once again on Friday, crossing the finish line in 26:25.4 to easily finish in the top-half of the field in 179th place. First-year
Cole Lewek ended his run less than 20 seconds later, ending up with a time of 26:44.5. Sophomore
Liam Fitzgibbon completed the course in 27:29.5, followed a few seconds later by classmate
Liam Dougherty in 27:43.9. Junior
Will Bonnette was the team's fifth scorer on the day with a time of 27:48.3.
Juniors
Jackson Klehr (27:51.9) and
Ben Pistiner (27:55.4) also ran for the Garnet Chargers in the Brown race.
Union also had five runners take part in the Open 8K race to start the day, with first-year
Alex Colangelo leading the Garnet Charger quintet by crossing the line in 28:06.3.
After taking next weekend off, Union will be back on the course on October 18 at the Connecticut College Invitational.
