SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Four members of the Union College men's cross country and track & field teams were recognized for their achievements in competition as well as their success in the classroom with spots on the 2025-26 Academic All-District Track & Field and Cross Country Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators and announced on Tuesday.
Senior
Mason Lang picked up Academic All-District honors for the third straight year, while junior
Aaron Binion was honored for the second straight season and juniors
Michael Fitzmaurice and
Ben Pistiner both earned the recognition for the first time in their careers.
To be nominated for College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must rank in the top 50 in their region in a single individual event in cross country, indoor track or outdoor track; maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher; and reach sophomore athletic and academic standing at the school.
Lang led the way for Union this season with five regional top-30 finishes, including an USTFCCCA All-Region honor in the indoor shot put. He earned his second All-Region recognition with a shot put of 14.34 meters at the Utica Holiday Classic, ranking eighth in the region, and also finished 28th in the weight throw. The senior finished in the top-25 regionally in three different events outdoors, paced by a top-10 showing in the shot put that earned him All-Liberty League honorable mention. He also ranked 23rd regionally in the javelin throw and 24th in the hammer throw in his final season as well.
Binion finished the year as one of the team's top sprinters, earning top-50 regional finishes in both the indoor and outdoor seasons. He ranked 39th in the region with an indoor 200-meter time of 22.58 seconds at the Liberty League Championships, and also posted the team's top 200 time of the outdoor season with a mark of 22.69 seconds at the conference meet.
Fitzmaurice had a solid season at the mid-distances for Union as a junior. He was part of the indoor distance medley relay quartet that earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors with a 10:18.82 finish at the Liberty League Championships that ranked eighth regionally, and he also posted the region's 11th-best 800-meter time by finishing in 1:56.18 at Liberty Leagues. He also ranked 32nd in the region with a top outdoor 800 time of 1:56.59 at the conference championships.
Pistiner rounds out Union's group of honorees after earning his way into the regional top-50 in the 5,000 meters, posting a converted time of 16:00.54 at the Utica Winter Opener.
With the four honorees, Union student-athletes have now earned 335 Academic All-District honors since 2001.
