SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Union College men's tennis team finished off its run at the ITA Northeast Regional Championships on Saturday at Skidmore College's McCaffrey-Wagman Tennis Center.
First-year
Simon Philip continued his time in the main draw on Saturday and gave an excellent battle to second-seeded Tarun Korwar of Hamilton College before succumbing by a 6-1, 7-5 score. The rookie was down 2-3 in the second before a pair of breaks gave him a set point up 5-3, but the second-seeded Korwar rebounded to take the final four games and the match.
After making a run to the finals of the "B" Singles bracket yesterday, junior
Daniel Saxe came up short to Skidmore's Mahen Bitkuri in his last match, falling 6-3, 6-0 in the title round.
In the "B" Doubles semifinals, junior
Shreyas Kode and first-year
Alain Uzelac dropped an 8-5 match to Fliip Glov Moeller and Alejandro Fernandez Lecaroz of Hamilton. The teams were on serve until 4-5, after which the Continental tandem won three of the last four games.
The ITA Regionals mark the end of the fall season for the Garnet Chargers. Union will take a few months off from competition before returning to the courts in February 2025, with the first matches set for February 21-22 at The College of New Jersey and New York University.
