TROY, N.Y. – The Union College football and women's basketball teams combined for a trio of weekly honors from the Liberty League this week and one more earned a spot on the honor roll for the week ending on November 16, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon.
Football Offensive Performer of the Week: Patch Flanagan
Flanagan had a huge day in lifting Union to a 28-21 win over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute that returned the Dutchman Shoes to Schenectady and clinched a Liberty League championship, accounting for 75 of the team's 79 offensive plays with 36 pass attempts and 39 rushing attempts. The senior went 20-for-36 for 239 yards and two touchdowns through the air, and also gained 196 yards and scored twice on 39 carries. Thirty-one of the team's first 33 plays of the game were either runs or passes by Flanagan, as he led the Garnet Chargers out to a 21-0 second-quarter advantage.
Women's Basketball Performer of the Week: Jelena Perovic
Perovic recorded a double-double with 23 points and 13 rebounds to go with four blocks, two assists and a steal in a 64-61 win over Russell Sage College on Wednesday. She had seven of the team's 14 points and three blocks in the second period to keep the team close at halftime and added six points during a 19-9 third-period run. She grabbed eight rebounds in the fourth quarter and sunk two key free throws with 21 seconds left to build up a two-possession advantage, finishing the game 11-of-13 overall from the free-throw line.
Football Rookie of the Week: Trey Rezendes III
Rezendes had five tackles (four solo) in Saturday's win over RPI. Four of his five tackles came in the fourth quarter, including the game-clinching stop on third-and-goal from the five-yard line that allowed the clock to run out.
