SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Six members of the Union College women's soccer team were recognized for their contributions on the field and success in the classroom with spots on the 2025 Academic All-District Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators and announced on Tuesday. Seniors
Anne Pearl and
Anabelle Thomas were honored for the second straight season, while senior
Grace Beazoglou and sophomores
Julia Bancheri,
Gill Horvath and
Addison MacDonald all were honored for the first time in their collegiate careers.
To be nominated for College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must compete in 90 percent of or start at least 66 percent of an institution's matches, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher, and reach sophomore athletic and academic standing at the school. Academic All-District honorees are considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America ballot, the results of which will be announced in December.
Pearl and Thomas are both recognized for the second straight season after leading the Union defensive and offensive units, respectively. Coming off All-Region honors as a junior, Pearl earned the program's first All-Liberty League first-team honor in over a decade as a senior after starting all 19 matches at back, scoring one goal with two assists while also anchoring a defensive unit that allowed only 14 goals in 19 contests. Thomas was named to the All-Liberty League second team after scoring a team-leading seven goals with three assists for 17 points, ranking top-seven in the conference in both points (sixth) and goals (seventh) and tying for the most goals scored by a Union player since 2016.
Horvath joined Pearl as a key part of the Union defensive structure, with Horvath starting all 19 matches on the back line and leading the team in minutes played. The sophomore came off the field for just 60 minutes all season for the Garnet Chargers, including playing the full 90 minutes in 14 contests.
Bancheri, Beazoglou and MacDonald helped to hold down the midfield for Union on the season. Bancheri ranked fourth on the team with two goals and added two assists for six points, playing in all 19 matches as one of the team's first options of the bench. Beazoglou appeared in 18 matches with 14 starting assignments as a senior, scoring her first collegiate goal in a 1-0 win over Rensselaer. MacDonald also started 14 matches and played in all 19 in her second season, ranking sixth on the team in shots and scoring one goal with one assist.
With the six honorees, Union student-athletes have now earned 281 Academic All-District honors since 2001. The women's soccer team is tied for second among all Union programs with 29 honorees over that span, the most by any women's sport at the College.
