CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Union College women's golf team shot the second-lowest team round in program history on Sunday, carding a round of 324 to finish in second place out of 10 teams at the Cortland Martin/Wallace Invitational, held on Saturday and Sunday at Cortland Country Club.
Union bettered yesterday's 330 by six strokes on Sunday to match the 324 shot earlier this year at Ithaca for the second-lowest round in school history. The team's two-day score of 654 is the second-lowest in school history, behind only a 644 shot at St. Lawrence in 2021, and placed the team behind only Ithaca College (332-302-634) on the weekend.
First-year
Iyene Essien led the way for Union once again, carding a three-over 75 on day two to finish the weekend at 153, one shot back of Ithaca's Rheanna DeCrow (80-72-152) for individual medalist honors. Her 75 is tied for the second-lowest round in program history, and her two-day score also is tied for third on the school all-time list. The first-year had a very steady Sunday round, recording 15 pars and only three bogies to earn her fifth top-five finish in six events this season.
Senior
Liz Bentsianov followed up yesterday's 80 with an 84 on Sunday to end the weekend in eighth place at 164, remarkably the senior's fourth weekend of 164 in six events this season. Junior
Shea White carded an 86 on Sunday to finish with a two-day score of 166, earning her a share of ninth place with her second-lowest weekend score of the season.
First-year
Carinna Anastasio vaulted 11 spots up the leaderboard with a career-best round of 79 on Sunday, the sixth-best round of the day among the 51-golfer field. As a result, she moved up to 15th place with a season-best weekend score of 171. Anastasio went out with a 41 and then came in with a 38, finishing with a flourish thanks to birdies on the par-4 16th and 18th holes.
First-year
Ella Golas shaved 10 strokes off her round yesterday with a 93 on Sunday to finish with a two-day score of 196, good for 30th place. Junior
Delaney Fox also knocked nine shots off her previous score with a season-best round of 103 playing as an individual.
Union will hold its final tune-up before the conference championships on Friday when the Garnet Chargers host the Union Spring Invitational at Schenectady Municipal Golf Course.
