SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Union College men's crew team earned a trio of top-five finishes to cap a good day of rowing at the New York State Championships, held on Saturday at Fish Creek.
Union's best finish of the day came in arguably the worst conditions, as the second varsity 8+ boat battled a pouring rain to take second out of five boats with a time of 6:53.52, edging Rochester Institute of Technology by 1.05 seconds and coming just over four seconds short of Skidmore College. The men's varsity 8+ boat took fourth out of five boats in their heat with a time of 7:06.50, and then took more than 23 seconds off that time in the petit final, in which the Garnet Chargers took second to place eighth overall. Helmed by senior coxswain

The novice 4+ boat took fourth in their race, finishing in 8:32.30 to defeat the University of Rochester by over 21 seconds. Helmed by first-year

Union will return to action next Saturday at the Novak Memorial Metropolitan Championships, hosted by Iona College in New Rochelle.
