NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Union College women's outdoor track & field team took 12th place at the Coast Guard Academy Invitational, held on Saturday at Nitchman Field.
The Garnet Chargers posted six Liberty League Championship qualifiers, five personal bests and four top-five finishes on the afternoon.
Sophomore
Kat Doran posted one of the team's top finishes of the day in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 27.22 seconds to place third overall in the 34-runner field. Senior
Gabby Baker also earned a third-place result out of 28 runners in the 400-meter dash, crossing the line in 1:00.36.
Doran was the team's top finisher in the 100-meter dash as well, as her time of 13.21 seconds was good for an eighth-place finish. Baker finished the 100 in 13.56 seconds to sit in 17th place. The times allowed both runners to qualify for the Liberty League Championships.
Senior
Cat Dacey made her first outdoor appearance of the season in the 1500 meters, finishing in 4:51.13 to place eighth and book her spot at the conference championships. First-year
Kyleigh Record followed close behind in 4:57.42 to also earn her a spot at Liberty Leagues, while both senior
Keelin Virgulto (5:30.17) and sophomore
Ella McCarthy (5:47.25) posted the best times of their careers in the event as well.
In the field events, junior
Grace Ardito also nabbed a third-place finish in the high jump by clearing a career-best 1.51 meters to qualify for the conference championships. First-year
Lauryn Johnson placed fourth in the javelin throw as well with a conference-qualifying distance of 28.69 meters.
In the shot put, sophomore
Maggie Buckley posted the best mark of her career with a top distance of 7.58 meters, while classmate
Epephanie LaBoy broke her career mark in the discus throw with a top toss of 19.08 meters.
Union will be back in action on Friday at RPI's Under the Lights Invitational.
