Muthersbaugh Earns ECAC Hockey Forward of the Week Award

DANBURY, Conn. – Union College men's hockey sophomore Ben Muthersbaugh earned ECAC Hockey's Laurel Lake Placid Forward of the Week award after scoring four goals and leading the Garnet Chargers to a weekend sweep over Colgate and Cornell, the league office announced Monday morning.

Muthersbaugh scored twice in the second period of Friday's game against Colgate, helping Union outscore the Raiders 5-1 in the middle stanza and erase a three-goal deficit. He potted the first two goals of the game on Saturday as the Garnet Chargers cruised to a 4-1 victory over Cornell, securing the team's third ranked victory of 2025-26 and first conference weekend sweep of the year.

The Gilford, N.H. native has recorded two points in three straight games and tallied the game-winning score against #9/10 Cornell on Saturday night. He secured the 15th and 16th multi-point games of his career, stringing together three straight outings with multiple points for the first time since a four-game stretch featuring 11 points from Oct. 18-26, 2024. Muthersbaugh went on to earn the Hockey Commissioners Association's Rookie of the Month award for those four games during his first season in Schenectady.

The 6-1 forward earned the second Forward of the Week award of his sophomore season after moving into a tie with junior Tyler Dunbar for the team lead in points (29). He has also surpassed his rookie-season point total of 28. With Muthersbaugh, Dunbar, and senior Brandon Buhr (27 points) all on the precipice of 30-point seasons, they can become the first trio of Union skaters to record 30 points in the same campaign since 2017-18.

Muthersbaugh and the Garnet Chargers suit up for their final two regular-season games at M&T Bank Center this season, beginning with a 7 p.m. matchup against Harvard on Friday, Feb. 20.
