Box Score Jason Visser scored two goals, his third and fourth of the young season, and sophomore goaltender Kris Mayotte made 32 saves to propel the Dutchmen over the Vermont Catamounts, 5-1. The Dutchmen/s victory ruined the return of former Union head coach Kevin Sneddon, who left Union over the summer to take the Catamounts' head job. Sneddon coached Union for 10 years, first as an assistant from 1993-98, and the last five years as head coach from 1998-2003.
Vermont got on the board first on a goal by Evan Stoflet, his second of the season, at 2:45 of the first period. Junior Joel Beal tied the game at 1-1 with his fourth goal of the season at 6:49 of the opening period. The tally was the first of three power play conversions for the Dutchmen. Sophomore Scott Seney and Visser gave Union a 3-1 advantage by scoring the game's next two goals. Seeney's team-leading ninth tally of the campaign came at 10:21as the first period ended with Union holding a 2-1 advantage. Visser opened the second period scoring by finding the back of the net, his third goal of the campaign, at 7:06 while the Dutchmen were on the power play.
Visser struck again at 13:19 of the third when he converted yet another power play opportunity to increase the Dutchmen's margin to 4-1.Sophomore Chris Konnick used Vermont's empty net to score his first goal of the season and round out the final margin.
Sophomore Jonathan Poirier finished the game with three assists while Bouchard added a pair of helpers. Bryan Campbell, Brian Kerr, and Jordan Webb each added an assist in the win.
Sophomore goaltender Kris Mayotte, who started his eighth-straight game, improved his record to 5-2-2. Union now is 7-2-2 overall, 2-1-1 in the ECAC while Vermont is 0-7-2 overall, 0-4-0 in the ECAC.
