Box ScorePlymouth, MI (Dec. 10, 2004)  Union broke out of its scoring slump in convincing fashion scoring four goals in the second period en route to a 5-1 win over Wayne State at the Compuware Sports Arena and snap a three-game losing streak. Junior Jonathan Poirier (St. Jerome, QUE) led the offensive strike with two goals to bring his season total to seven. The Dutchmen combined for just two goals in its three previous games. They are now 8-8-1 on the season.
The two teams played evenly throughout the opening period but it was Wayne State that came away with a late first period goal to get on the board first.  Tylor Michel scored on the power play with nine seconds left after Union's Jake Schwan (Clifton Park, NY) was sent to the penalty box for slashing. Michel fired home a slap shot from the right face off circle that caught the inside of the far post and rattled past Union goaltender Justin Mrazek (Regina, SASK).  The freshman goaltender would be sharp between the pipes the rest of the way finishing with 14 saves to hold the opposition to one score.  
Union rectified its offensive ailment that was plaguing the team as of late by outshooting the Warriors 19-3 in the second period and in the process putting up four unanswered goals to erase the Warriors lead. Wayne State aided the effort with four penalties in the first half of the period which left them fatigued and powerless to defend against the Dutchmen attack.
Sophomore Olivier Bouchard (Quebec City, QUE) got things started with a power play goal at 6:13 for his first in six games. Bouchard tipped in a shot by Scott Seney (Silver Spring, MD) that Wayne State goaltender Matt Kelly got a piece of but did not get enough of the puck to keep it out of the net. Bouchard also finished with two assists.  
Jason Visser (Mississauga, ONT) netted Union's second goal of the game at 13:57 which was his first of the season and proved to be the game-winner. He collected a shot that was partially fanned on by Jordan Webb (Nepean, ONT) and tucked it in on Kelly's weak side who could not get back over to his right side in time to make the save.  
It was Poirier's turn next, scoring a pair of goals less than two minutes apart from each other. The first came 49 seconds after Visser's with a shot between the face off circles that glanced off the post and in. He struck again at 16:37 lacing a shot just to Kelly's left side off a feed from center by Webb who picked up his third assist of the night to bring his career point total to 104, tying him for the all-time Division I scoring.
In the third period freshman Michael Beynon (Nepean, ONT) picked up his first goal of the season and seventh point to wrap things up at 4:41. He took a shot from the point that was lifted up to the top shelf after a partial deflection by a Wayne State player right in front which gave Kelly no time to adjust.  
For the game Union outshot the Warriors 38-15 and were two of eight on the power play after coming up empty on 16 opportunities over the last three games.     
Things were physical throughout the contest as the teams combined for 20 penalties with Wayne State taking 12 of those.  They were whistled for 11 over the last two periods after taking just one in the first.  
The teams will face off one more time tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
