Dutchmen split with Saints

Kyle Murphy scored on an error with one out in the last of the seventh to give Union a 6-5 win over St. Lawrence in an Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association baseball game at Central Park. The Saints won the nitecap, 8-1, behind the complete-game four-hitter by freshman pitcher Chris Kerr.

The split leaves the Dutchmen with a conference record of 4-4 and an overall mark of 9-11. The Saints, meanwhile, are also 4-4 in the UCAA and 6-15 overall.

Trailing 5-2 entering the last of the ninth, Union used four hits and the Saints' error to pull out the opening-game victory. Ben Brown opened with a double and scored on Adam Chused's rbi single. Adam Chadwick and Murphy both singled home a run before a hard hit ground ball by Dan Mehleisen was booted for an error allowing Murphy to come home with the winning run.

St. Lawrence had taken a 3-0 lead in the top of the fourth on a two-run single byBrandon Shankle.

The second game saw Kerr give up one unearned run while fanning six Dutchmen. The Saints scored four times in the top of the fourth on hits by Trent Emery, which drove in a run, Andy Engebretson and Will Kunkel and two Union errors. St. Lawrence iced the win in the eighth on an RBI hit by Tim Malisa and a two-run pinch hit single by Bowen Borgeson.
