Dutchwomen tune up for NCAAs by sweeping Hamilton

CLINTON, N.Y. - Julie Gawronski hit two doubles and a two-run home run to lead NCAA Tournament-bound Union College to a non-conference doubleheader sweep against Hamilton College at Ferguson Field. Union won the opener, 12-2, before taking the nitecap, 9-0.

(NOTE: Union will open its quest for the NCAA Division III championship on Friday at 10 a.m. against Staten Island. Gawronski finished the two games with four hits and six runs batted in for the Dutchwomen (23-3 overall). Abby Arceneaux improved to 12-1 with the complete game victory in the opener. Arceneaux pitched five innings, scattered six hits and allowed two earned runs. Colleen White, Gawronski and Caitlin DelZotto had two hits and drove in two runs each. Katie Ratner collected two hits, including a double, and drove in a run.

Jackie Coffey hurled a two-hit shutout in the nightcap. Coffey, who has not allowed a run in her last 26 innings, walked one and struck out six. She is now 11-2 on the season (both losses coming by the score of 2-1) and 22-2 for her two-year career.

Gawronski drove in two of her four runs on her sixth homer of the year (and 11th of her two-year career) in the second inning. Arceneaux had two hits and two runs batted in, and White drove in a run with her second double of the day.

Tracy Zaino led Hamilton (6-23) with three hits, including a run-scoring double in the first game. Zaino scored a run on a double by Colleen Aber.
