Union defeated at home against Hamilton, 11-2

Schenectady, NY (April 12, 2005) Union was defeated by Hamilton 11-2 in its second home game of the season Tuesday afternoon at Central Park. A three-run third inning by the Continentals started up the scoring followed by a pair of four-run innings in the fourth and ninth. Freshman pitcher Roy Eriksen (S. Nyack, NY) lasted just two innings for the Dutchmen, allowing two earned runs on five hits. Union falls to 4-10 on the season.

Hamilton's Pat McGarry got things started in the third with an RBI double that drove in Dan Hood. All three of McGarry's hits were doubles as he finished 3-of-5 at the plate. The Continentals extended the lead to 7-0 with four more runs in the fourth beginning with an RBI single by Patrick Suarez.

Union was able to make it 7-2 with a pair of runs in the sixth that were driven in by Mike Flanagan (Oxford, NY). The Dutchmen could not get any closer as Hamilton added four more in the ninth starting up with a single by John Porges that drove in a run.

Hamilton pitcher Kevin Coppola lasted seven innings for the win. The sophomore allowed one earned run on six hits for his first win of the season.

Union returns to action on Friday, April 15th as they host cross-town rival Rensselaer for a Liberty League doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
