Box ScoreONEONTA, N.Y. The Union College softball team swept both games of a non-conference double-header against Hartwick College on Tuesday afternoon at Ted Christman Field.
The Dutchwomen (24-4) earned a 12-0 triumph in the opener and won the second game, 10-0.
Junior pitcher Abby Arceneaux (Mechanicville/Mechanicville) (11-2) tossed a one-hit shutout in the opener for Union. She struck out seven without issuing a walk.
Senior right-hander Rachel Morrissey (0-5) went five innings for the Hawks (4-22) and allowed 12 runs (six earned) on 14 hits.
Sophomore left fielder Katie Benak went 1-for-2 with a single for Hartwick.
Arceneaux, junior center fielder Julie Gawronski (Dunkirk/Dunkirk), freshman catcher Catherine Kielb (Rensselaer/Columbia) and junior designated hitter Alicia Gifford (Schnectady/Guilderland) had two hits apiece for the Dutchwomen.
In the second game, junior pitcher Jackie Coffey (Boston, MA/Boston Latin (13-2) tossed a three-hit shutout for Union. She struck out six without walking a batter.
Hartwick junior Christina Winski (1-2) went two innings and gave up two runs (one earned) on three hits. Freshman Trish Shorey replaced Winski in the third inning and allowed eight runs (two earned) in three innings of relief. Shorey gave up seven hits and struck out three.
Benak, sophomore center fielder Rose Cunningham and senior shortstop Tressa Campbell had a hit apiece for the Hawks.
Arceneaux went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs to pace the Dutchwomen. Gawronski went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, and junior shortstop Beth Carcone went 2-for-3 with two runs.
Union hosts Skidmore Sunday for a league twinbill at 1 p.m.
