Box ScoreONEONTA, N.Y. -- Union scored the winning run in the eighth inning and Zach Tillo (Lancaster, MA/Exeter) and Adam Chadwick (Hampton/Winnacunnet) had two hits each to lead the Dutchmen to a 4-3 victory at Oneonta Tuesday afternoon.
The host Red Dragons, who are a perfect 10-0 in their conference (10-0) fell to 20-5 on the season. The Dutchmen won their second straight and improved to 7-12 overall.
Oneonta jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings but the Dutchmen got on the board in the third with a Mike Flanagan (Oxford/Mercerberg) triple that scored Tillo from first. Union tied it with two in the fifth with a Flanagan RBI double and an RBI single by Jeff Viamari (Longmeadow, MA/Tabor Academy). The Dutchmen scored the winning run in the eighth. Matt Smith (Latham/LaSalle) opened the inning with a walk, and was bunted over to second. Chadwick singled to center to send Smith to third. Kyle Murphy (Plymouth, MA/Phillips Academy) ground out to second to force Chadwick but Smith came in with the eventual winning run.
Senior righty John Gallagher (Etna, NH/Hanover) earned his first win of the season. He went 8 1/3 innings, giving up nine hits with three earned runs, and he also struck out a batter. Union won despite four errors, while the Red Dragons had three errors in the contest.
The Dutchmen host the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts for a nine-inning single game Wednesday at 4 p.m. This contest is a make up of the March 31 postponement.
