Box ScoreCANTON, N.Y. -- Jesse Emilo and Josh White turned in strong pitching performances, designated hitter Joe Regonlinski hit two home runs in the first game and the St. Lawrence had 16 hits in the nightcap in a 6-1, 9-6 Liberty League baseball sweep of Union College at Tom Fay Field Friday afternoon.
The Saints are 11-8 overall while Union, 8-15, is 1-5 in the Liberty League and is scheduled to play at league-leader Clarkson.
Emilo surrendered a solo home run to Zach Tillo of Union in game one, but it was the only run he allowed in a four-hitter. Regonlinski hit two run homers in both the third and the fifth innings.
The Saints jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first in game one when DiGeronimo lined a two run double to deep left. The Saints made it 4-0 in the bottom of the third when DiGeronimo lined a single to center with two out and Regonlinski hit a line drive home run over the left field fence.
Union got one run back on its first hit of the game, a home run to left by Tillo to lead off the top of the fourth. Regonlinski hit his second two-run shot of the game in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 6-1 game.
White struck out 11 in seven innings and allowed only two earned runs to improve to 3-1 on the mound in game two. Union rallied with three runs in the top of the ninth to make it close, but freshman Troy Lassial earned the save.
DiGeronimo went three for four, Tim Malisa and Jeff Silino each had two hits and Matt Yaworsky tripled for the Saints in game two. Kyle Murphy was four for five, Mike Flanagan three for four with two runs driven in and Adam Chadwick tripled for Union in game two.
Union took a 1-0 lead on Flanagan's run scoring single in the top of the first in the second game, but the Saints came right back to tie. Leadoff hitter Matt Yaworsky beat out an infield single, stole second, went to third on a fly ball to center and scored on a passed ball.
The Saints took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the second as Joel Kocan walked went to second on a balk and scored on Jeff Silino's single. Joe Shehata then hit a double to left center, scoring Silino. Regonlinski drove in his fifth run of the doubleheader in the bottom of the third inning as Tim Malisa and DiGeronimo hit back-to-back singles to open the inning and Regonlinski hit a one-hopper through the left side to plate Malisa.
Christian Spicer led off the bottom of the fourth with an infield hit, but had to leave the game with an injury. Pinch runner Andrew Engebretson was sacrificed to second, went to third on a passed ball and scored on Malisa's fielder's choice. DiGeronimo then lined a sharp single to center to score Malisa and make it a 6-1 Saint lead.
Union scored two in the top of the seventh on Chadwick's triple and Kyle Murphy's single plus a pair of Saint errors.
