Box ScoreSCHENECTADY, N.Y. Union College set a school record for victories in a season in a non-league sweep over Hamilton Tuesday at Alexander Field. The Dutchwomen won the first game, 10-1, and took the nightcap, 8-0.
Union is now 28-4 for the 2005 season, which snapped the school record of 26 wins set in 1999 and tied in 2003. The Dutchwomen have won 11 straight games. Hamilton fell to 2-20 overall.
In the first game, Catherine Kielb (Rensselaer/Columbia) ended the game with one out in the sixth, as she hit a three-run home run for the eight-run margin. It was the second homer of the season for the freshman catcher. Union broke open a 2-1 game with four runs in the fifth and four in the sixth. Junior pitcher Abby Arceneaux (Mechanicville/Mechanicville) improved to 13-2 on the season, as she won her fifth straight. She allowed three hits and one unearned run while walking one and striking out nine. Kielb had two hits and four RBIs in the win, while Beth Carcone (Utica/New Hartford) also had two hits for the contest. Arceneaux entered the game ranked #32 in NCAA Division III with a 0.82 ERA entering the week. Union had nine hits off Hamilton's Lindsey Eaton (Center Harbor, NH/Inter Lakes Jr.-Sr. High School). Eaton gave up six earned runs in 5 2/3 innings of work.
Union pitcher Jackie Coffey (Boston, MA/Boston Latin), who was ranked #33 in the country with her 0.83 ERA entering the week, won for the 14th straight time. She has not lost since March 22. Coffey allowed two singles while her teammates had 14 hits and also won the game in the sixth inning, this time with three runs in the frame. Erika Eisenhut (Mohawk/Mohawk), Julie Gawronski (Dunkirk/Dunkirk), Carcone and Kielb had two hits each in the victory, while six different Dutchwomen had an RBI each. Eaton also pitched this contest, allowing six earned runs in 5 1/3 innings.
Union has a doubleheader in Liberty League play against Skidmore pending on the regular season schedule, from an April 24 postponement. Hamilton returns to action tomorrow at SUNYIT.
