Box ScoreTroy, NY (April 26, 2005) Union suffered its worst loss of the season, falling on the road to Renssealer 29-7 in non-league baseball action Tuesday afternoon. It was the second straight game the Red Hawks scored more than 20 runs. The Dutchmen pitching staff was touched up for 28 earned runs on 34 hits as Rensselaer scored a run in all but two innings, including two, six-run frames and eight in the sixth. Centerfielder Adam Chadwick (Hampton, NY) finished 4-for-5 at the plate for Union, driving in one run and scoring once. Union is now 8-16 on the season while Rensselaer improves to 17-12.
Dan Quinn started things off for Rensselear with a three-run homerun in the first inning as part of a six-run effort. Chadwick drove in Brian Rhone (Deedham, MA) in the second for Union with a single to make it a 6-1 game.
After putting up a run in the fifth, the Dutchmen added two more the next inning. Scott Carroll (Scituate, MA) scored on a single by Seth Weinberg (Scarsdale, NY), who came in on the next play with a single from Ben Brown (Brookline, NH). Rensselaer responded by scoring eight runs in the bottom half of the sixth, highlighted by Adam Lasek's two-run homerun.
Union put up three more runs in the eighth, all coming on RBI singles to close out the scoring.
Pitcher Ben McGuire (Gloversville, NY) suffered the loss for Union. He was one of six Dutchmen hurlers. McGuire allowed nine runs on 10 hits in 1.2 innings of work. On the other side Luke Calzone picked up the win for Rensselaer, allowing just one run on two hits while striking out three batters in 2.1 innings of work. The Red Hawks also used six pitchers in the game.
Union will look to recover from this game when it travels to Rochester for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 30th beginning at 1:00 p.m.
