Box ScoreALBANY, N.Y. Union's softball team improved to 13-3 on the season with a pair of 8-0 victories at Russell Sage Tuesday afternoon. Union has now won 10 straight games.
In the first game, the Dutchwomen jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first three innings. This week's Liberty League Performer of the Week, Julie Gawronski (Dunkirk/Dunkirk), had three hits while Catherine Kielb (Rensselaer/Columbia) drove in two runs. Kielb and Erika Eisenhut (Mohawk/Mohawk) had two hits each in the victory. Jackie Coffey (Boston, MA/Boston Latin), who had been named the Liberty League Co-Pitcher of the Week Monday, pitched four innings of relief to improve to 6-2. She relieved Abby Arceneaux (Mechanicville/Mechanicville), who left the game due to an injury. They combined to allow just two hits.
Coffey posted another shutout win in the nightcap while Gawronski had three hits, scored three runs and also had three RBIs in the victory. Kelly Owings (Oswego/Oswego) had two hits and scored two runs in the triumph.
The Dutchwomen will return to action Friday, with the home opener scheduled at 3 p.m. against Liberty League rival Rensselaer.
