FT. MYERS, FL -- The Union softball team continued a stellar week in the sun in Florida, with wins over Kalamazoo and Chicago Tuesday night. The Dutchwomen downed the Hornets from Michigan, 11-3, and then closed out a late evening under the lights with a 7-3 triumph over the Maroons. Union is now 6-0 on the season.

The Dutchwomen opened up the night with the win in five innings over Kalamazoo, as the game ended due to the large lead. Senior pitcher Jackie Coffey (Boston, MA/Boston Latin) struck out four Hornets in five innings, while senior outfielder Julie Gawronski (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk) drove in two runs in the victory. Newcomer Megan Kaknis (New Windsor, NY/NFA) scored two runs for the Dutchwomen.

Union came from behind in the late innings to post the 7-3 win over Chicago. Senior Abby Arceneaux (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville) gave up just four hits through the seven innings to join Coffey with a 3-0 record. Kaknis came through big, as Union trailed 2-0 in the sixth until the freshman infielder cleared the bases with a pinch hit in the top of the sixth.

The Dutchwomen get right back to work Wednesday morning with a doubleheader against Clark at 9:00 a.m.
