PORT CHARLOTTE,  FL -- St. Lawrence righty Chris Kerr allowed just one Dutchman hit in leading St. Lawrence to a 5-0 victory over Union in the Liberty League baseball opener for both teams Thursday.

The Saints improved to 5-2 (1-0 in the Liberty League) while the Dutchmen fell to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the league. The second game of the twinbill was rained out in the top of the fifth, with St. Lawrence leading 8-3, and Union the home team. It will be resumed Friday at 9 a.m., prior to the regularly scheduled league doubleheader between the two teams.

St. Lawrence had 11 hits for the game. Union's Josh McKelligan (Canton, MA/Salisbury), who was the starter in the nightcap, had the lone hit, a single for Union in the opener.

Union junior Eric Giovannone (New Hartford, CT/New Hartford) suffered the loss for the Dutchmen. The starter gave up three earned runs in six innings, did not walk a batter and struck out five.

After Friday's league twinbill against the Saints, Union will play Crown on Saturday to wrap up their season opening week in Florida.
