Hamilton posts three homeruns in 10-4 win over Union

McKelligan hit Union's first homerun of the season against Hamilton

Clinton, N.Y. - Hamilton College hitters drove in five runs with three homers and the Continentals defeated visiting Union College 10-4 in a non-conference game at Royce Field. Freshman Josh McKelligan (Canton, MA/Salisbury) hit a two-run homerun for the Dutchmen in the fourth inning to bring them within two, but Hamilton put up four more runs over the next three for the win.

Pat McGarry hit a three-run homer in the third inning and Tom Monfiletto hammered two solo shots for Hamilton (6-13), which snapped a six-game losing skid. McGarry ended up 2-for-2 with three walks and four RBI. John Porges had two hits, including a double, and drove in a run. Porges has hit in seven straight games. Eric Villanova went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

McKelligan cracked his first homerun of the season to bring Union (4-14) within two runs at 4-2. Ben Brown (Brookline, NH/Bishop Guertin) doubled and drove in a run. Matt Ward (Pittsfield, MA/St. Joseph's) lasted just two-plus innings and took the loss. Ward (1-1) allowed three runs on one hit, but walked five and struck out two.

McGarry's blast gave the Continentals a 4-0 lead. McKelligan cut Hamilton's lead in half with his two-run homer, but Hamilton restored the four-run cushion in the bottom of the fourth thanks to Monfiletto's first round-tripper and an RBI-single by McGarry. The Continentals led 7-3 going to the bottom of the seventh when it clinched the victory with three runs. Hamilton took advantage of two hits, three walks and a hit batsman to do its damage. Travis Blood '09 drove in a run with a single.

Dan Hood was effective in the first start of his career for the Continentals. Hood threw five innings, allowing five hits and three earned runs. He walked two and struck out three.
Union will host Vassar in a Liberty League doubleheader on Saturday, April 15th at 1:00 p.m.
