Softball sweeps Russell Sage to improve to 15-1

ALBANY, NY -- Senior pitcher Abby Arceneaux (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville) had five hits on the day and struck out five batters in the first game in leading Union to a non-league softball sweep at Russell Sage Tuesday. Union won the opener 10-0 and the nightcap 9-0, with both games ending after five innings. The #14 Dutchwomen are now 13-1 on the season.

Arceneaux gave up five hits and improved to 7-1 on the year. She had three hits, scored two runs and drove in a run for Union, which scored eight runs in the second inning. The Dutchwomen also scored single runs in the third and fourth.

In the second contest, senior pitcher Jackie Coffey (Boston, MA/Boston Latin) boosted her record to 8-0. She gave up four hits in four innings, while striking out seven and not allowing a walk. Freshman Megan Kaknis (New Windsor, NY/NFA) made her pitching debut for Union and struck out two batters in one inning of work. Arceneaux added two hits and two RBIs, while Julie Gawronski (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk) had two RBIs, two hits, and hit her third homer of the season.

Union gets right back into action Wednesday. The Dutchwomen will host Utica at Alexander Field at 3:30 p.m.
