CLINTON, NY -- Julie Gawronski (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk) and Michelle Rogers (Clarence, NY/Clarence) collected four hits apiece to lead #25 ranked Union to a pair of non-conference wins against host Hamilton College at Campus Road Athletic Field on April 25.
Union (23-3 overall) is #4 in the NCAA Northeast regional poll. The Dutchwomen won the opener 5-0 and scored eight runs in the first three innings of Game 2 en route to an 8-5 victory. Hamilton's record dropped to 2-20.
Abby Arceneaux (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville) pitched a four-hit shutout in Game 1 to improve her record to 12-3. Arceneaux walked five and struck out six. Alicia Gifford (Schenectady, NY/Guilderland) added three hits and Rogers cracked a double in that game. Amber O'Connor went 2-for-3 with a double for the Continentals.
Gawronski and Colleen White (Westport, CT/Staples) drove in two runs apiece in the nightcap. Union led 8-1 after three innings. Jackie Coffey (Boston, MA/Boston Latin) picked up the complete game victory. Coffey allowed five runs on eight hits, walked four and struck out seven. Hamilton rallied with a four-run fourth inning. Caitlin McCormick hammered a bases-clearing double to highlight the inning. Megan Coughlin chipped in two hits, including a double.
The Dutchwomen travel to Troy to take on Rensselaer on Friday, April 28. The doubleheader begins at 3:00 p.m. and will be live on WRUC-FM 89.7 and on the web at http://wruc.union.edu.
