CANTON, NY – The Union (25-5, 3-3 Liberty) bats were out in full force at Canton to pick up a doubleheader sweep against St. Lawrence in Liberty League softball action. With six runs in the first inning of the opener the Dutchwomen cruised to a convincing 10-4 win as they scattered out 15 hits and were led by three-hit performances from Julie Gawronski (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk) and Michelle Rogers (Clarence, NY/Clarence). In game two Union posted eight runs on eight hits behind a strong performance from pitcher Jackie Coffey (Boston, MA/Boston Latin), who allowed just two hits and struck out five batters.

Union came out swinging in game one with its six runs coming on six hits and an error in the first inning. Gawronski got things started with an RBI single to center field that brought in Abbey Arceneaux (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville), who led off with a single and drove in a run with a double to center field later in the inning. A Catherine Kielb (Rensselaer, NY/Columbia) double came two batters later to drive in two more runs.

Arceneaux (12-4) then went to work on the mound for the Dutchwomen sending the Saints down in order through the first two innings and allowing only one hit through three. She finished with seven strikeouts for the win and allowed four runs on five hits.

After Union posted three more runs after four innings St. Lawrence made a mark on the scoreboard with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth on a single to right field from Katie Dreher to bring in Andrea Muszynski and Lilah Brown. They added two more in the fifth before the Dutchwomen plated the final run in the sixth.

She doubled to left field in the fifth inning to drive in one of two Dutchwomen runs.

Rogers had an impressive day at the plate, combining for four runs and five hits. She scored two runs in each game and was two-for-three in game two.
