Kovack triple sends Dutchwomen past Lawrence, 2-1

FT. MYERS, FL – Freshman Ashley Kovack (Ridgefield, CT/ Ridgefield) hit an RBI triple in the seventh inning to give the Union College softball team a 2-1 win over Lawrence in the Dutchwomen's season opener.
 
With the score tied at one, Colleen White (Westport, CT/ Staples) reached on a single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Lucia Reed (Braintree, MA/ Braintree) replaced White as a pinch runner and scored on Kovack's triple.
 
Lawrence took a one-run lead in the top of the sixth when freshman Alex Goodsen hit a homerun.
 
Union got a run back in the bottom of the inning as Megan Kaknis (New Windsor, NY/ NFA) reached on a single and was replaced with Megan Bordino (New Paltz, NY/ New Paltz) as a pinch runner. Bordino advanced to second on a Diana Polli (Chester, NY/ John S. Burke Catholic) single and scored when Kelly Owings (Oswego, NY/ Oswego) grounded out to the shortstop.
 
Union freshman pitcher Tiffany Ippoliti (Schuylerville, NY/ Schuylerville) gave up one earned run and struck out six in her first career appearance. Lawrence pitcher Catharine Marinac struck out seven and scattered four hits in seven innings.
