FORT MYERS, FL -- Union bounced back from a late inning loss earlier in the day with a 6-0 lead through three en route to a 9-1 softball triumph over Thomas Monday afternoon. The Dutchwomen evened their young seson record to 4-4. Michelle Rogers (Clarence, NY/Clarence) had two hits and two RBIs for Union and Catherine Kielb (Rensselaer, NY/Columbia) slugged a three-run homer.
The Dutchwomen also got two RBIs each from Megan Kaknis (New Windsor, NY/NFA) and freshman Katie Letheren (Manchester, NH/Bishop Guertin). Letheren ended the game with a two-run triple to center in the bottom of the fifth that made it an eight-run lead.
Freshman Lindsay Colvin (Medfield, MA/Medfield) pitched a gem for the Dutchwomen. She alllowed just one hit, a triple by Lindsay Oxley in the fourth. She walked one and struck out six and faced just 18 batters in five innings.
Jana Fetterhoff took the loss for Thomas, allowing six runs, all earned, and five hits in three innings.
Union wraps up the Florida portion of the schedule Tuesday. The Dutchwomen take on Oberlin at 9 a.m. and SUNY Potsdam at 11 a.m.
