Kaknis, Kovack lead big bat attack for softball in sweep

FORT MYERS, FL -- Sophomore Megan Kaknis (New Windsor, NY/NFA) and freshman Ashley Kovack (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) each were 3 for 3 in both games to lead Union to a pair of softball wins in the Dutchwomen's final day in Florida Tuesday. Union defeated Oberlin, 12-0 and SUNY Potsdam, 16-1 in games that both went five innings.

In the opener, freshman pitcher Ginny Sack (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills) allowed just one hit in a strong pitching performance for the Dutchwomen. In the nightcap, Union jumped out to a 4-0 lead after one and put seven runs on the board in the second en route to the victory.

The Dutchwomen went 6-4 during their five days in Florida. Union will play at Mount Saint Mary on Friday and at Staten Island Saturday. The home season will open on Wed., April 4 vs. Oneonta at Alexander Field at 3 p.m.
