UTICA, NY -- Freshman outfielder Diana Polli (Chester, NY/Burke Catholic) had three hits and two RBIs in the opener and followed that up with three RBIs in the nightcap as Union swept Utica, 7-2 and 11-10 (in nine innings), in a non-league softball doubleheader Wednesday. The Dutchwomen improved to 14-6 on the year while the Pioneers fell to 8-6.

Senior second baseman Colleen White (Westport, CT/Staples) had two hits in the opener and three with two RBIs in the second game.

In the opener, freshman pitcher Lindsay Colvin (Medfield, MA/Medfield) got the victory with a complete game, striking out four. This week's Liberty League Rookie of the Week did not walk a batter. Shorstop Michelle Rogers (Clarence, NY/Clarence) had two hits and three RBIs in the 12 hit attack, and Union jumped out to a 6-0 lead through three innings.

Kallie Mathis took the loss for Utica, giving up seven earned runs and 12 hits. Anna Solen Westling had three hits and two runs driven in.

Union trailed 8-4 after three innings of the second game but got two in the fifth and tied it with two in the seventh. Both teams scored twice in the eighth but Union pushed across the eventual winning run in the top of the ninth. White scored on a two-out error by the left fielder for the 11th run.

White and Rogers had three hits each in the 11 hit attack. Freshman Tiffany Ippoliti (Schuylerville, NY/Schuylerville) came in for relief and got the win with seven innings, giving up six hits and striking out five.

Union returns to Liberty League play Sunday at the University of Rochester at 1 p.m.
