Brian Yanovitch (Mansfield, MA) each registered a pair of goals in the Dutchmen ice hockey team's 5-4 loss to the United States Under-18 Team on Saturday at Messa Rink.
Down by a goal with 5:52 remaining U-18 defenseman William Wrenn took a slashing call, opening the door for the Union offense. The Dutchmen unleashed a flurry of shots near the end of the man advantage, but were unable to convert.
Goaltender Adam Murray stood strong during the two minutes, but USA committed another penalty (defenseman Brendan Rempel, slashing) with 3:42 remaining and again the Dutchmen went to work on the power play.
Union worked the puck throughout their zone and had several chances while crashing the net, but were unable to find twine. The game ended with Union holding a 52-35 advantage in shots, but USA held on for the victory.

Lane Caffaro (Slave Lake, AB) also tallied a pair of points, including an assist on Valery-Trabucco's first goal and Yanovitch's final tally.
Sophomore netminder
Corey Milan (Great Barrington, MA), a 2007-08 All-ECAC Hockey Rookie Team selection, turned away 30 shots in his 2008-09 debut, including 10 saves in the first, 11 in the second and nine in the third.
Yanovitch registered the first nonofficial goal of his career to give Union a 1-0 lead only 1:37 into the game. The freshman found the puck at the right face-off circle and snipped a shot past the glove of Murray.
USA forward Jerry D'Amigo was sent to the sin bin 4:56 into the first and the Dutchmen capitalized. This time Valery-Trabucco
fired a shot from the slot past Murray. Sophomore right winger
Adam Presizniuk (Calgary, AB) fed him the puck and junior center
Jason Walters (Renfrew, ON) picked up the second assist.
The Under-18 team pulled within one at 12:38 when forward Jeremy Morin snuck one past Milan. Despite the lone goal in the first, Milan made two key saves during the period. He stopped D'Amigo on a breakaway at the 9:30 mark and made a butterfly save while killing a penalty with 1:15 remaining.
After USA forward Chris Brown tied the game 2:20 into the second period on a power play, Valery-Trabucco answered with a breakaway goal at 7:27. Caffaro, an All-ECAC Hockey Preseason selection, found the speedy junior from Union's end to just over the red line. Valery-Trabucco went short side over the blocker and under the post.
The second period scoring continued with goals by U-18 forward John Henrion at 12:55 and Kyle Palmieri at 14:24 to put their team up 4-3, but once against the Dutchmen answered. Yanovitch turned on the red light at 17:43 from down low. Caffaro picked up another assist and sophomore center
Justin Pallos (Glastonbury, CT) was credited with the second helper.
The game-winner come when U-18 center Drew Shore cashed in on a rebound less than two minutes into the third period. Forward Kenny Ryan picked up the assist.
The Dutchmen begins the regular season on Friday, Oct. 17 against ECAC Hockey foe Quinnipiac in a non-league game at the Omaha Stampede at 5 p.m. They follow with a game against either American International or Nebraska Omaha on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 5 p.m. or 8 p.m.
