SCHENECTADY, NY -- For the second straight week, the Union women's swimming & diving team received three Liberty League weekly player awards.
This week's recipients are junior Sara Callahan (Shelton, CT), sophomore Meredith Nearpass (Seneca Falls, NY) and freshman Kirstin Burdett (Bristol, RI). Callahan won the Co-Swimmer of the Week award with Vassar's Emily Love, while Nearpass was the Diver of the Week. Burdett won her second straight rookie award, sharing this week's honor with Samantha Jones of Vassar.
In the final dual meet before the state championships, the Union women's swimming & diving team won at host Ithaca College Saturday, 134-109. In a meet at Ithaca, Callahan was first in the 1000 free for the Dutchwomen, with a time of 10:47.76. She also set a pool record in the event. She also was the victor of the 500 free at 5:21.35. This is Callahan's first career weekly honor.
Nearpass won the one meter diving event with a score of 245.70, over 25 points better then the second place finisher. The score qualifies her for NCAA Championships consideration. She was second in the three meter dive competition with a score of 213.80. This is the first weekly award for Nearpass, and the seventh straight week that a Union women's diver won the award.
In a dual meet at Ithaca, Burdett was the victor in the 200 IM with a time of 2:16.71. The Dutchwomen's relay team was the winner of the 400 medley relay, featuring Burdett with
Amy Nestlerode,
Andrea Marois and
Ashley Braniecki. Burdett has received rookie weekly honors three times this season.
Union competes at the NYSWCAA Champinships at Nottingham High School, February 20-23.
