Five Lifetime-bests and Nine Finals Swims for Women's Swimming & Diving

ITHACA, N.Y. – Junior Samantha Picciotti placed sixth in the 200 butterfly, and junior Chloe Matthews eked out a program record in the 100 individual medley as the Union College women's swimming & diving team competed in its third day at the 2026 Liberty League Swimming & Diving Championships, hosted by Ithaca College at the Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium.

Matthews etched her name into the history books during a time trial of the 100 IM, securing her record-setting time by .01 seconds over Kaleigh Ahern's 15-year standard. Picciotti hauled in her trip to the A-final of the 200 fly after a lifetime-best 2:16.37 and took even more time off in the evening session as she finished sixth (2:15.85). Picciotti's performance represented one of Union's nine finals swims and half of the team's lifetime-bests in prelim and finals swims.

First-year Lucia Lazarus took care of the rest of the PR's, also in the 200 fly, going 2:22.87 in prelims and 2:20.29 in the B-final. She placed 12th.

First-years Julia Garber and Ali Sweeney positioned themselves as Union's two other B-finalists on the day along with Lazarus, placing 14th and 16th in the 100 breaststroke, respectively.

Among five C-finals for the Garnet Chargers, sophomore Kathlyn Pomeroy had the highest finish, placing 18th in the 100 breast.

First-year Mya Schattin, junior Grace Furtado, and first-years Maddie Stanley and Cate Kavanaugh went 8:33.47 in prelims as a unit in the 800 freestyle relay. Junior Amelia Dino, first-year Charlotte Auth, junior Jess Konsky, and Matthews followed that up with an 8:09.24 and another sixth-place spot in the evening session.

The Garnet Chargers remain in sixth place of the championship standings for the third straight day, boasting 397 points and 85 more points than seventh-place William Smith with one day left of competition.
