FT. MYERS, FL -- Sophomore pitcher Ginny Sack (Burnt Hills, NY) picked up the win in both games, and tossed a one-hitter in the win over Alverno, as the Union softball team swept a pair of contests Tuesday. Sack one-hit Alverno in a 8-0 victory, and Union downed Middlebury, 14-7, to improve to 4-2.
In the contest against Alverno, a school from Milwaukee, Sack allowed one hit in the final inning. Averno had five errors in the contest, and Union had seven hits. Michelle Rogers (Clarence, NY) and Kelly Owings (Oswego, NY) each had two hits in the triumph. The Dutchwomen broke open the game with seven runs in the bottom of the fourth. Rogers also drove in two runs.
The Dutchwomen exploded for 16 hits and the Panthers had six miscues in the 14-7 Union win over Middlebury. Sack pitched in relief as the Dutchwomen fell behind, 7-1 after two innings. She struck out four and did not allow a run in 5 2/3 innings. But a 10-run fourth inning iced this contest. Owings had two more hits with three RBIs, and Bridget Graham (Orchard Park, NY) had three hits for the game. Lindsey Larabee (Westfield, MA) had a double and a triple in one inning, as Union scored 10 runs in the fourth to erase the six run deficit.
Union is idle on Wednesday, but returns to action Thursday with games against MIT and St. Olaf.
