FT. MYERS, FL -- Union College junior first baseman Megan Kaknis (New Windsor, NY) broke the school's career home run record Friday and Union wrapped up a week in Florida with an 11-3 five inning triumph over Colby. The Dutchwomen now stand 7-2 after posting their sixth straight victory.
Kaknis hit a two-run homer in the third inning, her second round tripper of the young season. The junior now has 19 career home runs, as she broke the record of 18 set by Julie Gawronski, who played from 2003 through 2006. Kaknis hit 15 home runs last year in her sophomore season.
The Dutchwomen had 10 hits against the Mules. Megan Bordino (New Paltz, NY), Michelle Rogers (Clarence, NY) and Kaknis had two htis each. Sophomore pitcher Ginny Sack (Burnt Hills, NY) improved to 3-1, allowing seven hits while striking out one in the victory. The Dutchwomen wiped out a 1-0 Colby lead with a nine-run second inning.
Amanda Roehn took the loss for the Mules, as she gave up eight hits and eight earned runs in two innings. Alyssa Crowell gave up two hits in the final two innings of work.
Union will play at SUNY Oneonta on Wednesday, April 2. The Dutchwomen open at home on Sunday, April 6 to host Mount St. Mary at 1 p.m.
