SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Union College baseball team dropped a Liberty League doubleheader to Skidmore Saturday, 14-3 and 8-5. The two teams will meet again Sunday in Saratoga in a noon doubleheader to cap the season series.
Ryan Bowes (Hamilton, N.J.) went 3-for-6 with a pair of doubles for the Dutchmen (2-11, 0-9 Liberty).
Colin McKelligan (Canton, Mass.) went 4-for-8 with an RBI, including a 2-for-3 performance in the first game.
In the first game, Union jumped out to a three-run lead after two innings on RBI singles from
Zach Tillo (Lancaster, Mass.), Pat Wilson (Cos Cob, Conn.) and
Paul Mene (Falls Church, Va.), but Skidmore scored 12 runs on nine hits through the next three innings to put the game in check.
The Thoroughbreds added a pair of runs on a hit and an error in the top of the seventh. Matthew Rogers (Topsfield, Mass.) allowed eight runs (six earned) on nine hits in four innings in the loss (1-2).
In game two,
Brian McLaughlin (Norwood, N.J.) went the distance for Union, giving up five earned runs on 10 hits while striking out six in his first career complete game, and the first by a Union pitcher this season.
Skidmore held a slim lead in the game until a four-run eighth inning gave the Thoroughbreds an 8-3 advantage. Union scored a run in the bottom of each of the final four innings on a pair of hits in each frame, but couldn't muster the comeback.
