MIDDLEBURY, VT – Union improved to 16-3 on the season as they took a pair of road games at Middlebury by scores of 5-2 and 12-0 in five innings. The Panthers return to action with a NESCAC West series at Williams on Friday and Saturday, before visiting Amherst on Sunday.
Union pitcher Ginny Sack (Burnt Hills, NY) picked up both wins on the afternoon, allowing two runs on seven hits, while striking out five batters. Union struck for four runs in the first inning of game one, behind a two-run triple by Catherine Kielb (Rensselaer, NY). An RBI double by Lindsay Larabee (Westfield, MA) and a run-scoring single from Bridget Graham (Orchard Park, NY) later in the inning made it a 4-0 game.
Middlebury answered with a pair in the bottom of the inning, as Ali McAnaney plated Geena Constantin and Megan Margel with a two-run double.
Union scored the game's only other run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Kielb.
Megan Kaknis (New Windsor, NY) went 3-4 to lead Union, while
Megan Bordino (New Paltz, NY), Graham and Larabee each had a pair of hits. Margel went 2-3 for the Panthers, while McAnaney had a double.
Union led 4-0 in game two before scoring eight runs on eight hits in the fifth inning to picked up a 12-0 win in the five-inning contest. A two-run double by
Alexandra King (Chester Springs, PA) and a two-run single from Kaknis sparked the inning. Kaknis went 3-4 with three RBI in the game, King was 2-3 with three RBI, while
Michelle Rogers (Clarence, NY) went 3-3 with two runs scored and two driven in. Carlie Crawford and McAnaney singled for the Panthers.
The Dutchwomen are right back on the road tomorrow at SUNY Oneonta. Union is making up a doubleheader with the Red Dragons at 3 p.m.
