SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY -- Union College freshman
Alexandra King (Chester Springs, PA) drilled two home runs on the day as the Union College softball team cruised to two Liberty League wins, 13-1, 11-0 (both in five innings), Saturday afternoon. The wins put the Dutchwomen at 2-0 in league play and 19-4 overall. The Thoroughbreds drop to 0-4 in Liberty League play and 9-18 overall.
Game one featured 11 hits from the Dutchwomen, including three from junior
Michelle Rogers (Clarence, NY), who was 3-4 with two RBI.
Ashley Kovack (Ridgefield, CT) was 2-3, including two-run homerun in the second, and finished with four RBI and two runs scored.
Union hurler
Ginni Sack (Burnt Hills, NY) threw a gem on the mound for the Dutchwomen, allowing only four hits and one earned in five innings of work.
Skidmore senior Sarah Stehouwer (Woodstock, Vt.) had two of four Thoroughbred hits, going 2-2 while taking the loss on the mound. Shaila DeLea (Cornish, Maine) scored the only Skidmore run in the first inning, off of a single by Lauren Dinsdale (Harrington Park, N.J.)
In the nightcap, freshman pitcher
Catherine Ferrara (Port Jefferson, NY) threw five innings of one-hit ball with two strikeouts to take the victory for Union. King was 1-1 with a three-run homer and two walks. Junior
Megan Kaknis (New Windsor, NY) was 2-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Dinsdale took the loss on the mound for the Thoroughbreds, while senior Thyra Johnson (Freeville, N.Y.) had the lone Skidmore hit.
Union hosts Staten Island for a non-league doubleheader Sunday at 1 p.m.
