Merinder sets record, hits NCAA qualifying mark at ECAC Track Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Union College sophomore Jen Merinder (Andover, Mass.) broke her own school record and placed fourth in the 400 meter hurdles with an NCAA provisional qualifying time at the ECAC Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Springfield College Friday. Moravian won the title with 57 points, while the Dutchwomen finished 42nd in the 53-team field with five points.
 
Merinder ran the 400 meter hurdles in 1:04.11, breaking the Union record she set two weeks ago at the NYSCTC Championships by more than a tenth of a second.
 
She then teamed up with Rachel Fitz (Medford, N.Y.), Julie LaSpina (Roslyn Heights, N.Y.) and Clarissa Odence (Lincoln, Mass.)  for the 4x100 meter relay which placed 23rd with a time of 51.83.    
 
The women's 4x400 relay team of Fitz, Merinder, Kerry Bannon (West Hartford, Conn.) and Odence was 23rd with a time of 4:13.60.
 
The NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh are set for May 22-24.
