TROY, N.Y. – The Union College women's outdoor track & field team had its final tuneup before the conference championships on Friday, as the Garnet Chargers placed eighth out of 13 teams at the RPI Capital District Classic, hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at Ned Harkness Field and Track.
Union finished the day with 21 points to finish fifth among seven Division III teams and eighth overall at the meet, which featured Division I, III and NJCAA programs. The Garnet Chargers finished the day with eight season-bests and two personal-bests on the day.
Junior
Ashley Sheldon picked up an easy win in the high jump, needing just one leap to take first place. After passing through the first seven heights, no other competitor was able to clear her initial height of 1.53 meters, which the junior cleared on her first try. The women earned their first six points of the day in the 4x100 relay thanks to the quartet of Sheldon, senior
Kat Doran, and first-years
Ava Gasson and
Kate Nielsen and their third-place time of 51.25 seconds.
Junior
