WINTER HAVEN, FL – Five Dutchmen had multi-hit games, giving Union baseball its first victory of the season with a 15-5 win against Westminster (Missouri) on Monday at the 2009 Russ Matt Baseball Invitational. The victory marked the first career win for head coach Dave Dagostino Jr., improving Union to 1-3, while Westminster goes to 1-8.
 
 
After dropping behind 3-2 in the fourth, the Dutchmen rallied and took the lead in the bottom of the fifth thanks to an RBI single by junior first baseman 
Paul Mene, who eventually scored on a throwing error with two outs.
 
 
Mene paced the Dutchmen, going 4-for-4 with two runs scored and a team-high three RBI. Sophomore leftfielder 
Jarid Hotaling was also perfect at the plate, going 3-for-3. He scored three times and drove in a run.
 
 
Senior centerfielder 
Pat Wilson homered in the second to lead off the inning and put Union on the board. He finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
 
 
Freshman designated hitter 
Kevin Dexter also had an multi-hit affair, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. He entered the game in the ninth to pitch and struck out two.
 
 
Sophomore 
Jeremy LeFebvre got the start on the mound. He went 5.0 innings, striking out seven and allowing two earned runs for the victory. Sophomore Matthew Rogers supplied 3.0 innings in relief, registered three strike outs and allowing one earned run.
 
 
After the Dutchmen went up with an additional two runs in the bottom of the sixth, they exploded for a season-high nine runs in the bottom of the eighth. They produced nine of their 18 hits in the eighth. Senior third baseman 
Dane Flavin singled to right to drive in two RBI. He joined Mene as the only other Dutchmen with multiple RBI.
 
 
 
Cassese went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and he registered his first career triple.
 
Union enjoys a day off before taking on D'Youville on Wednesday, Mar. 25 at 12:30 p.m. at Lake Myrtle #3 in Winter Haven, FL.
