SCHENECTADY
, NY – Designated hitter Jarid Hotaling opened up Union College baseball's new facility (Central Park Diamond C) in a big way. The sophomore extended his hitting streak to nine games by going 4-for-6 with an RBI in the Dutchmen's 13-10 setback against William Paterson on Tuesday. Sophomore Anthony Cassese put his stamp on opening day with the first home run in the newly renovated home of Dutchmen baseball.

After a combined 23 runs and 27 hits, Union saw its record go to 3-6, while William Paterson improved to 10-8.

Hotaling singled in the first, second and fourth inning and drove in Union's fourth run of the game in the fourth with a single through the left side. In the bottom of the seventh he registered his third doubled and sixth extra base hit of the season.

Sophomore third baseman Dane Flavin continued to produce at the plate, going 2-for-5 with a double. He doubled in the third to score a run and eventually crossed home plate on a triple by freshman shortstop Kevin Dexter, who went 1-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored.

To get things rolling, senior centerfielder Pat Wilson drove in Hotaling with his first two bagger of the season.

Cassese followed in the second after the Pioneers jumped out to a 7-1 lead with a bomb to centerfield.

The Dutchmen pulled within one (11-9) in the seventh thanks to Hotaling's double, but the Pioneers added two insurance runs in the eighth and cruised the rest of the way.

Union returns to the diamond on Saturday, Apr. 4 for a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Rochester.
