ROCHESTER, NY – Senior righthander Beth Ameno (Cheektowaga, NY) pitched complete game victories as the University of Rochester swept a softball doubleheader from visiting Union College at GLC Field. The Yellowjackets won the opener, 3-0, and took the nitecap, 2-1.

Rochester scored a pair of unearned runs in the second inning of game one. Liz Slupinski (Hamburg, NY) singled. Ameno's sac bunt was misplayed, putting runners at first and second. Erin Clark (Mannsville, NY) singled to center. When the ball was overrun, both runners scored. Clark was thrown out trying to get to third base.

Ameno helped her own cause with an RBI single in the sixth, scoring pinch-runner Cara Celorio (Scotia, NY).

Union got the first two aboard in the second. Megan Kaknis singled and took second when Rochester over-ran the ball. Nina Cervini walked. Ameno retired three straight on fly balls. With one down in the fourth and Lauren Hoffman on first, Alex King (Chester Springs, PA/The Shipley School) doubled to left. That put runners on second and third, but Ameno struck out Erika Hillenbrand (East Berne Knox, NY/Duanesburg) and retired Lucia Reed on a liner to short.

In game two, Rochester took a 1-0 lead in the third without the benefit of a hit or an error. Mindy Altemose (Mt. Pocono, PA) walked. She moved to second on a wild pitch and took third on a sac bunt by Brittany Celeste (So. Glens Falls, NY). With two down, she scored on a passed ball.

The Yellowjackets made it 2-0 in the fifth. Clark singled and ran to second when the ball was misplayed in the outfield. After a lineout and groundout, Celeste singled to right for the RBI.

Union broke through in the sixth. With two down, Cervini homered over the left field fence. King singled up the middle and was replaced by pinch-runner Callee Heywood. Reed flied to right. The ball was dropped when two Rochester outfielders collided. Heywood reached third and Reed took second. Ameno ended the threat by striking out Kovack. In the seventh, she retired the Dutchwomen in order.
