St. Lawrence Takes Two From Baseball

, NY – The Union College baseball team dropped two games be the score of 4-2 to Liberty League foe St. Lawrence on Saturday. Union (8-18, 3-13) were led by 2-for-5 performances by junior outfielder Paul Mene and junior outfielder #John Johnson, while St. Lawrence (15-14, 8-10) was led by a 3-for-5 showing by Bryan Brennan.
 
St. Lawrence took the first game with two runs in the first, one in the third and one in the four. Zach Slatter went the distance, striking out 10 for his third win of the year.
 
The Dutchmen got a RBI from junior second baseman Andy Brown in the first inning and an RBI from sophomore third baseman Dane Flavin in the third.
 
Senior Matt Sheehan threw 4.2 innings, allowing three earned runs before classmate Brian McLaughlin finished the final 2.1 innings.
 
During game two, St. Lawrence scored in the top of the first thanks in large part to a leadoff double by Brennan.
 
Union responded with a senior Shawn Johnston double to score sophomore DH Jarid Hotaling in the bottom of the third.
 
Union grabbed the lead in the when Johnston had an RBI single to score Flavin. The Saints, however, answered with three runs in the top of the eighth to seal the win.
 
Junior pitcher Colin McKelligan threw 7.0 innings, striking out seven, before being replaced by sophomore Jeremy LeFebvre, who struck out two in two innings of work.
 
The two teams will do battle again on Sunday at noon.
