Dutchwomen sweep St. Lawrence, Union is 28-6 and awaits possible post season announcement

SCHENECTADY, NY -- Bridget Graham had four hits, four RBIs and a home run on the day and the Union softball team closed out the regular season with a sweep over St. Lawrence at Alexander Field Sunday. The Dutchwomen downed the Saints, 9-1 (in six innings) and 7-3 on Senior Day, and Union now awaits a possible post-season invitation. Union is now 28-6 overall and finished 5-3 in the Liberty League, while the Saints finish 5-25 and 1-7.

The NCAA Division III tournament field will be announced at 11 a.m. Monday online at www.NCAA,com. The ECAC field will be announced later in the day and will be posted at www.ECACsports.com.

The Dutchwomen got solid performances from pitchers Tiffany Ippoliti and Ginni Sack. Ippoliti is now 11-2 after the game one five hitter, as she allowed one earned run and struck out three. Sack came in to relieve starter Lindsay Colvin in the second game and gave up six hits and one earned run while striking out five. The junior is now 12-3 for the season.

In the first contest, Union had a slim 2-1 lead but exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game with the eight run rule. A total of 12 batters came to the plate and the inning was highlighted by a three run homer to right center by Alexandra King. It was her second of the season. She wound up with three hits and the three RBIs while Lucia Reed and Kaitlyn Graham had two hits each. 

St. Lawrence starter Meg Goodmote (Queensbury, NY) gave up 11 hits in 4 2/3 innings. She did have two of the Saints' five hits in the first game.

The visitors jumped out to a 2-0 first inning lead but Sack came in and wrapped up the inning without any additional runs. She allowed just three singles over the last five innings. Union tied it in the bottom of the first when Michelle Rogers had a two run double. Union took the lead on a solo homer by Megan Kaknis, her eighth of the season, in the third inning.

Graham had three hits and three RBIs and hit a two run homer during the three run sixth inning. Kaknis wound up with two hits in the nightcap. 

Molly Swan (Clifton Park, NY) had two hits and two RBIs for the Saints, while Melissa Rogers (Clarence, NY) also had two hits. Rachel Duffany (Watertown, NY) took the loss in the complete game performance.
