Ahern, Scarlett, Nearpass earn Liberty League weekly honors

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Three members of the Union College swimming & diving teams earned Liberty League weekly honors on Monday. Sophomore Kaleigh Ahern and junior Brian Scarlett earn Co-Swimmers of the Week and senior Meredith Nearpass earns Co-Diver of the Week.

Ahern shares the award with Rochester's Corinne Lampe and Nearpass shares the diving honor with Stephanie Bolin. On the men's side, Scarlett shares the award with Kevin Howard.

It is the second time that both Ahern and Nearpass won weekly honors together. In addition, it is Ahern's third swimmer of the week award this season while this is Scarlett's first and Nearpass' second.

Union had two meets on Saturday at Hartwick, against the host Hawks followed by Springfield. Union defeated Hartwick but lost to Springfield.

Ahern won the 200 yard IM relay. She turned in a time of 2:14.70 in the relay. Scarlett won both the 200 yard backstroke relays, with a time of 2:01.17. In the diving part of the meet, Meredith Nearpass won the one-meter dive with a score of 200.25. She also won the three-meter dive with a score of 196.45.

Both the Dutchmen and Dutchwomen will return to Liberty League action this Saturday at Rensselaer. The meet is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
