Luley Snags Men's Swimming & Diving's Second Silver of Liberty Leagues

ITHACA, N.Y. – First-year Troy Luley earned the Union College men's swimming & diving team's second silver medal at the 2026 Liberty League Swimming & Diving Championships on Friday night, posting a pair of lifetime-bests in the 100 breaststroke and finishing with the second-fastest time in program history (55.91) while competing at the Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium.

After senior Drew Hill qualified for the A-final of the 100 backstroke with a lifetime-best 52.87, Luley secured the team's second A-final of the day with a lifetime-best 55.94 in the 100 breast during prelims. In the evening session, both swimmers took even more time off their career-best swims, but neither swimmer was able to alter the record books any further in finals. Luley stayed put behind Matthew Kenvin's 100 breast record from 2024, and Hill just missed out on the program's top-10 of the 100 back by .04 seconds.

The Garnet Chargers recorded 11 lifetime-bests across prelims and finals. Along with Luley in the 100 breast, three Garnet Chargers doubled up on PR's. Sophomore Brayden Green and first-year Chase Reynolds notched their fastest 200 butterfly times in prelims and cut even more time off in the C-final, placing 18th and 20th, respectively. Reynolds took 11.22 seconds of his previous lifetime-best by the end of the night. Reynolds' classmate Lucas Miller swam a lifetime-best in prelims to reach the B-finals of the 200 fly, eventually placing 12th.

In prelims of the 100 breast, first-year Emlen Lease and sophomore Crosby Grim touched the wall the quickest they ever have in their careers so far, landing in the B-final and finishing 12th and 16th, respectively. Sophomore Myles Gronbach registered a lifetime-best in prelims of the 100 back.

First-year Nathan Lowney, senior Josh Hiller, Reynolds, and Green went 7:32.60 in the prelims of the 800 freestyle relay, setting up first-year Tripp Kennedy, junior Gavin Baltes, Luley, and Miller for a fifth-place finish in finals. Union's 200 medley relay with Hill, Luley, Lease, and senior Benjamin Sperling finished sixth (1:36.68) at the onset of the evening session.

Off the 1-meter diving board, junior Cole Pierson (317.80) placed ninth, and sophomore Finn Weafer (292.40) placed 11th.

The Garnet Chargers remain in fifth place after Day 3 of the championship meet and hold a 47-point edge over Skidmore College with one day left to compete.
