SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College men's and women's swimming & diving teams begin the four-day Liberty League Swimming & Diving championships on Wednesday, Feb. 18 with the first session of preliminaries beginning at 10 a.m. at Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium, hosted by Ithaca College.

The Garnet Chargers enjoyed successful regular seasons with both men's and women's teams posting .500 records in dual meets. It is the first time both Union swimming & diving teams have had a .500 record or better in the same season since 1997-98.

Union's women's swimming & diving team will look to move up in the Liberty League standings for the second consecutive year after finishing sixth last season. The women have several first-years impressing in the water and four different Garnet Chargers were named the Rookie of the Week this season in the Liberty League. Two of those first-year award winners, Julia Garber and Ali Sweeney, are in the top-16 in championship events this season. Garber has the 16th-fastest 100 breaststroke time in the Liberty League and the seventh-best 100 individual medley time. Her 1:04.95 is also the sixth-fastest time in program history. Sweeney has the 11th-best 200 breaststroke time in the league.

First-year Maggie Reale owns Union's top time in the 50 freestyle (25.53) and was the Rookie of the Week on Jan. 12. First-year Cate Kavanaugh posted Union's best 1,000 freestyle performance and was the conference's Rookie of the Week on Jan. 5.

Seven different women's swimmers hold season-best times for Union this season in championship events, led by junior Chloe Matthews with seven. The Kennebunk, Maine native was named the Swimmer of the Week by the conference twice this season and has the fourth-fastest 100 IM time in program history (1:03.97), set at the 2025 Liberty League championships.

Junior Jess Konsky holds the top times in the 200 freestyle, 100 backstroke, and 200 backstroke, while her classmate Samantha Picciotti has Union's quickest 200 butterfly in 2025-26.

The men look to improve upon their seventh-place finish at last year's championship meet. At their midseason meet in early December, Union placed fifth out of six teams, improving upon its eight-place finish at the midseason meet in 2024-25.

If the Garnet Charger men can move up on the scoreboard at Leagues this season, it will be their first jump up the standings since moving from sixth place to fifth place in 2022-23.

Union's men's team has 14 marks inside the top-16 across championship events in the Liberty League and nine top-10 marks. Sophomore Nick Megas is tied for the third-fastest 50 free time and the seventh-fastest 100 freestyle time. He also has the 12th-best 200 free time in the league, but his teammate first-year Tripp Kennedy has the quickest 200 free mark of any Garnet Charger at 1:43.70.

Kennedy is one of two Union first-years with multiple top-16 times in the conference, joined by Troy Luley. Luley has Union's fastest 1,000 free, 100 breast, and 200 breast this season. His 100 and 200 breast times are the seventh- and fourth-best in the Liberty League this season, respectively.

Senior Drew Hill holds Union's best 100 back performance in 2025-26 at 54.22 (16th-best in Liberty League) and the sixth-fastest 100 butterfly time across the conference at 51.04. As the program record holder in the 100 IM, Hill also has the second-fastest time in that event across the Liberty League this season (54.35).

First-year Lucas Miller rounds out Union's five swimmers with top-16 performances with the 14th-quickest 200 fly time in the league. Junior Cole Pierson is in the top-10 of the 1-meter and 3-meter diving boards league wide.

Hill and Luley racked up seven combined weekly awards from the conference this season. Hill was named the Swimmer of the Week three times, and Luley was the conference's Rookie of the Week on four occasions.
