Softball opens 2010 season with a pair of losses in Florida

ORLANDO, FL
. - The Union College softball team opened it's 2010 season with a pair of losses Sunday. The Dutchwomen lost, 2-1, to the University of Chicago and to Washington and Jefferson by a score of 3-2 in the second game of the day.

Union's only run against Chicago came in the second inning. With the bases loaded, junior Callee Heywood drove in Nina Cervini from third after reaching on a fielder's choice.

Chicago's Sarah Neuhaus earned the win while Ginni Sack suffered the loss. Both pitchers pitched a complete game.

Against Washington and Jefferson, Becky Gronczniak went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Georgia Schumacher earned the win for Washington and Jefferson while Tiffany Ippoliti suffered the loss. Both pitchers also pitched a complete game.

Union returns to action on Monday against Wellesley College at 11:30 a.m. followed by Hope College at 1:30 p.m.
